This is the second film, I saw in the September half price off action. When I first saw that there was a new film with Ansel Elgort I was intrigued.
I was very impressed with the cast for this film. You’ve got Kevin Spacey, John Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Ansel Elgort and Lily James. What can go wrong?
This is a typical thieve story and how crews are set up. There is some background for the Baby character but the other characters are very two-dimensional. They try to fix this by quickly giving the characters back stories but too little too late.
There are some funny parts in the film and you will love this if you are into music. I really think the music is a character on its own. I really loved the choices they made. And it seems all the songs were chosen before the film was made and not as an afterthought on the soundtrack as the songs are actually sung along too.
The character of Baby (the most worked out one in the film) does make you feel sympathy for him. But don’t all bad boys in movies do that.
I was entertained but not really by the story more by the music and the imagery on its own. It’s a movie where you don’t need to think, perfect for when you’re doing other stuff at the same time.
